No cON Name 2020: 8 things you must know if you want to attend

Desde que se celebrara su primera edición, en un hotel de Palma de Mallorca, en 1999, la No cON Name se ha convertido, por ponentes y asistentes, en uno de los grandes referentes en ciberseguridad técnica en España. Su responsable, Nicolás Castellano, siempre le gusta destacar que la clave es la “calidad más que la cantidad”. Y por ello, entre los requisitos para participar, el primer es hacerlo en primicia en este tipo de eventos. En 2020, a diferencia de sus ediciones, se podrá seguir, gratis, en on line a través de Twitch.
Han sido casi 20 ediciones –este año es la 19º-, con miles de asistentes y centenares de ponentes. La No cON Name ha evolucionado desde su primera edición, en 1.999, como lo ha hecho la seguridad informática y los hackers. Muchas han sido las novedades técnicas que se han presentado en sus ediciones y, en 2020, volver a ser su ‘ADN’. De hecho, a diferencia de otros eventos, todas las conferencias serán primicia.
“Actualmente hay muchos eventos de ciberseguridad y todos están bien. Es una gran noticia la proliferación de este tipo de congresos en España y fuera y, a causa de la Covid-19, su formato virtual hace que sea más fácil asistir que nunca”, explica el cofundador de la No cON Name, José Nicolás Castellano, al frente de esta edición junto con otros reconocidos expertos como Francesc F., Sebastián Miranda, Francisco Fuente, Oleguer Rocafull, Eduard Gavin, Javier Ladrón de Guevara and Sergio Garcia. “Pero nosotros intentamos marcar una diferencia buscando aportar valor, conocimiento y, también, esa visión crítica a lo que está pasando que nos permita mejorar”, destacan.
Así entre los grandes temas que marcarán la diferencia en la No cON Name de 2020 hay varias ponencias de seguridad ofensivas y, también, sobre privacidad y neutralidad en la red. Se está viendo, que por una parte hay un auge del interés por ciertos colectivos y personas por proteger la privacidad y seguridad de empresas e instituciones. Está bien que se haga labor divulgativa, pero cada vez es más difícil encontrar contenido innovador sobre cosas que está sucediendo en la actualidad.
Entre otras muchas intervenciones de interés habrá desde una de cómo ‘atacar el Big Data’, hasta otra de privacidad sobre el “Abusos institucionales de los datos”, de Simona Levi o el siempre incisivo Joel Serna sobre diferentes tipos de keyloggers o la exótica “Hackeando con música” o la dedicada a desmitificar muchas de las falsas creencias de la red Tor, entre otras interesantes intervenciones.
Formato internacional
El Congreso, que tendrá formato de tarde, comenzando el viernes 18 de diciembre y terminando el domingo 20, también quiere facilitar la asistencia de público internacional, además del nacional, esta edición contará con un 30% de las ponencias castellano y el 70% restante en inglés. “Se trata de poder atraer a público de otros países europeos a los que les cueste estar en este tipo de congreso en España por la dificultad lingüística”, explican los organizadores.
Eso sí, al igual que el resto de las ediciones, la No cON Name garantiza un programa con más de una docena de conferencias en las que se aportará mucho conocimiento pero también, aspectos que inviten a la reflexión de lo que está pasando en el ciberespacio, la seguridad cibernética y el mundo hacker. No dejará de lado, también, un aspecto divulgativo de alto nivel reflexionando y mostrando qué se puede y qué no hacer en ciberprotección para que cualquier investigador siempre actúe, acorde con el espíritu hacker y, como tal, dentro del marco legal establecido tanto en España como en Europa.

There have been almost 20 editions – this year is edition 19-, with thousands of attendees and hundreds of speakers. No cON Name has evolved since the first edition in 1999, the same way cybersecurity and hackers have done. Many technical developments have been presented in previous editions and, in 2020, this will be in its ‘DNA’ once again. In fact, unlike other events, all the talks will be exclusive.
Exclusive presentations
“Nowadays there are many cybersecurity events and all of them are good. It’s great news that there is a wide spread of such congresses in Spain and abroad and, because of COVID-19, its virtual format makes it easier to attend than ever”, explains No cON Name’s cofounder, José Nicolás Castellano, in charge of this edition with other renowned experts like Francesc F. , Sebastián Miranda, Francisco Fuente, Oleguer Rocafull, Eduard Gavin, Sergio Garci and Javier Ladrón de Guevara. “But we try to make a difference looking to provide value, knowledge and, also, a critical view about what is happening that allows us to improve”, they highlight.
So between the main topics that will make the difference in No cON Name 2020 there are several talks about offensive security and, also about privacy. “We have created a program. We are seeing that on one hand there is a boom in interest in certain groups and individuals to protect the privacy and security of companies and institutions. It’s okay to do outreach work, but it’s getting harder and harder to find innovative content about things that are happening today.
Among many interesting talks there will be one about how to “attack Big Data”, another privacy one about “Institutional abuse of data”, by Simona Levi, or Joel Serna talking about different types of keyloggers, or the exotic “Hacking Music”, or one dedicated to demystify many fake beliefs about Tor network.
International format
The Congress, that will have an afternoon format, beginning on Friday 18 December and ending on Sunday 20, also tries to accommodate an international audience, as this edition will have 30% of the presentations in Spanish and 70% in English. “It’s about being able to attract people from other European countries that find it hard to attend this type of congress in Spain due to language difficulties”, organisers explain.
However, like the previous editions, No cON Name guarantees a program with more than a dozen conferences in which a lot of knowledge will be provided but also, aspects that invite reflection of what is happening in cyberspace, cybersecurity and the hacker world. It will also include a high-level informative aspect reflecting and showing what can and cannot be done in cyberprotection so that any researcher always acts, in accordance with the ethical hacker spirit and, as such, within the legal framework established in both Spain and Europe.
